Experience a Truly Fantastic Vacation In England
Whilst the weather may be a little unreliable and the fortunes of pound sterling inconsistent, there is nothing to beat a vacation in England. Being proudly British myself, I am of course somewhat biased! The best thing about England is its sheer variety. There is history, culture and natural scenery with a mix of fascinating cities, coastal spots and countryside. It’s also possible to see a lot in a short space of time.
London - One of the World’s Greatest Capital Cities
In the first instance, London in particular is terrific for seeing great landmarks, such as the Houses of Parliament, the Tower of London and Buckingham Palace. Tourists can float down the River Thames or get a bird’s eye view of the city from the London Eye. There are world-class museums here, including the Victoria and Albert Museum, the British Museum, the Science Museum and the Natural History Museum. Art galleries with international reputations are here too, such as the National Gallery and the Tate and Tate Modern. A vacation in England isn’t all about history however; there are many shops such as Harrods and Liberty to please even the most die-hard shopoholics.
A Country Steeped in History
Whilst the capital is a top destination and deservedly so, it would undoubtedly be a shame to ignore other parts of the country. If history is indeed your thing, there are many other cities positively steeped in it, such as York and Canterbury. England is known for its cathedrals and those two cities have wonderful examples. In addition, many towns have fine examples of Medieval, Edwardian and Victorian architecture. A vacation in England has many opportunities to be a culture vulture, with some of the finest ballet and opera companies in the world. In particular, Shakespeare devotees will love Stratford on Avon, where the Bard first staged his plays.
A Tranquil Haven for Fans of Nature and Scenery
England is also a haven for nature enthusiasts. There are the rolling Sussex Downs and the Norfolk Broads where visitors can hire a barge or other craft to negotiate the narrow waterways, looking for herons and kingfishers. The Yorkshire Moors and Dales are a scenic delight, with dry stone walls, waterfalls, market towns and little country lanes. The Lake District is a National Park, the hilliest district to be found on a vacation in England. Walkers and climbers love to come here and there are sailing and water sports on the lakes. This is also Beatrix Potter country and hundreds of Japanese fans flock to see her old haunts every year.
The coastline of the country is very rugged in locations like Northumberland, near the Scottish border. Whitby in Yorkshire is a seaside town noted for its use as a backdrop to the Dracula novel written by Bram Stoker. Larger coastal towns, such as Blackpool, Brighton and Scarborough have all the rides and attractions you could possibly require to keep the kids happy and entertained.
So what are you waiting for! Why not take a vacation in our rich and diverse country today and see exactly why so many satisifed visitors return year after year - I’m sure you won’t be disappointed!
